Harris student, human rights worker, Bosman dies at 25

Amy Bosman, a University graduate student at the Irving B. Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies, died Saturday, March 22.

Bosman was in her first year of the joint MPP/JD program and planned to enter Chicago’s Law School in the fall.

Bosman fell from the fire escape of her ninth-floor apartment in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

After performing an autopsy, the Cook County Medical Examiner ruled the death an accidental “fall from height.”

Before attending the Harris School, Bosman had participated in the Teach for America program for two years in inner city Houston, Texas, and had worked in Guatemala assisting refugees. She recently won the University’s Human Rights Fellowship to work in Mexico City.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, followed by a reception at the Harris School.
