CTA extends route to improve service at Metra stations

Beginning Monday, Dec. 23, the CTA No. 170 University-Midway bus route, which operates during weekday rush periods, will be extended to serve the Metra Electric station at 57th Street.

Currently, No. 170 buses operate on a circular route, counter clockwise from the Metra station at 59th Street, via 59th Street, Cottage Grove Avenue and 60th Street to Stony Island Avenue.

To serve the 57th Street station, the No. 170 buses will operate east from 60th Street and Stony Island Avenue into Jackson Park and north via Cornell Drive to 57th Street, where they will turn west. They will then go southbound on Stony Island Avenue before returning to 59th Street.

The extended routing will allow No. 170 buses to serve virtually every Metra train that operates through the area during rush periods, providing greater convenience for commuting faculty members, administrators, staff, students and visitors, who are traveling to the University campus and hospitals.

    No. 170 buses run from 6:40 a.m. until 9 a.m. weekday mornings, and from 3:20 p.m. until 6 p.m. during the afternoons.
