    Howard Sandroff, Senior Lecturer in Music, has been named a recipient of a 2002-2003 Composer Fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency committed to cultural, educational and economic growth across the state through its support and encouragement of artists and the arts.

    He is one of 54 Illinois artists in seven categories who will receive fellowships.

    Sandroff currently is working on a solo piano composition that was commissioned by Paul Hoffman of Rutgers University. During the period of his fellowship, he plans on completing his first opera.
