The Laboratory Schools Board of Directors has announced that it has extended its search for a new Director and has appointed Beverly Biggs, Principal of the Lower School, to serve as Interim Director for a one-year term, effective Monday, July 1.

As Interim Director, Biggs succeeds Lucinda Lee Katz, who has been the Schools’ Director for the past 12 years. Biggs has been at the Laboratory Schools since 1979 and has served as Lower School Principal since 1994.

She holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and an M.Ed. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Biggs has done wide-ranging work in curriculum and instruction and was recently named to the Board of ISACS (Independent Schools Association of Central States).

While Biggs serves as Interim Director, current Nursery-Kindergarten Principal Carla Young will serve as principal of the Lower School. Young will oversee Nursery School through Grade 4 with the help of an assistant principal, yet to be appointed.
