Open Enrollment online begins Friday, Nov. 9

Open Enrollment for 2002 benefits will be online once again this year.

The dates for University employees to enroll are Friday, Nov. 9 through Monday, Nov. 19. The benefits that University employees choose during Open Enrollment will become effective Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002.

Information kits for Open Enrollment that include a 2002 Personalized Enrollment Worksheet, a Guide to 2002 Benefits and a Supplemental Retirement Program: Enrollment Guide 2002 will be mailed to employees prior to Friday, Nov. 9.

However, employees will be able to enroll without their kits because all individual benefits information will be online. Access information and personal identification numbers were sent to employees in October.

Employees must make their choices online. Information will be posted beginning Friday, Nov. 9, at the University Human Resources Management Web site, http://hr.uchicago.edu.

“Some health care plans have increased costs by a greater percentage than others; some have changed pricing structure for certain benefits within their plans––for example, the co-pays for prescriptions. So, it is very important for employees to pay attention to these changes to ensure that their current selections are still the best ones for them.” said Chris Keeley, Associate Vice President of UHRM.

Employees who do not participate in Open Enrollment will continue with the same benefits they had during 2001, but all new rates will apply.

Employees are required to enroll each year if they choose to participate in the Supplemental Retirement Program and/or a Flexible Spending Account.

All questions about Open Enrollment may be directed to the University Benefits Office at (773) 702-9634 or by e-mail at benefits@uchicago.edu.
