    Farewell to Turkington

Edward Turkington, who served since 1993 as Deputy Dean of Students in the University and Dean of Student Services, recently celebrated his retirement with friends and members of the University community. Turkington came to the University in 1958 to study history as a graduate student. His studies were interrupted when he was called away for a three-year tour of duty with the U.S. Army. He returned to the University in 1963 and began his career in student services as an assistant resident head in Hitchcock Hall. His increasing responsibilities for the housing system led to appointments in 1966 as Director of Student Housing and in 1978 to Associate Dean of Students. Members of the Chicago Maroon honored the retiring dean with a special “Turkington” edition of the student newspaper, and President Randel presented him with a framed collage of photographs taken across the University campus.
