    Memorial service is scheduled to honor Professor Emeritus Fano

    A memorial service for Ugo Fano, Professor Emeritus in Physics and the James Franck Institute, is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 5, in Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E. 59th St.

    Fano died Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Montgomery Place in Hyde Park. He was 88.

    A member of the University faculty since 1966, Fano’s pioneering contributions to the theory of atomic and radiation physics helped lead to the development of the gas laser and the use of radiation in medical diagnosis and therapy.
