Improvements continue at International House with the installation last week of a fire alarm system that meets the City of Chicago’s building code requirements.

Meredith Mack, Director of Facilities Services, noted, “It was essential to bring the fire alarms up to code as quickly as possible.”

One hundred twenty rooms have been redecorated, along with the shower areas where individual stalls have replaced communal showers.

“We are working hard to make the entire building more pleasant for residents and guests,” said Henry Pernet, Director of International House. The building has 508 rooms, but Pernet said 400 permanent residents will be the ideal number when all redecorations are completed.
