MUNUC responds to crisis
 |
At the opening ceremony, College student Nilay Patel (far right) welcomes 2,000 high school students from across the United States, Mexico and Canada participating in the Universitys 13th annual Model United Nations, which concluded Sunday. Keynote speaker Leonard Rubenstein, (above) executive director of Physicians for Human Rights, which was the winner of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, speaks with Alexandra Corrigan of Carl Sandburg High School, Orland Park, Ill. The students served as delegates of their assigned nations to simulated U.N. committees, including Majeed Mogharreban (near right) of Carbondale, Ill., representing Saudi Arabia. A highlight of the event included the simulation of global crisis in which the students were awakened in the middle of the night to respond. |
