“Canceled: Exhibiting Experimental Art in China”

    Sunday, Nov. 19-Sunday, Jan. 7

Opening reception and panel discussion: 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19

Smart Museum of Art, 5550 S. Greenwood Ave.

    702-0200.

The exhibition “Canceled: Exhibiting Experimental Art in China” will raise questions about artistic freedom, censorship and the relationship between experimental art and society at large. Unlike most exhibitions, its subject is not an artist or a group of artworks, but an exhibition that was canceled by the Chinese government. Through a tightly focused installation and comprehensive catalogue, “Canceled” will evoke the milieu of contemporary Chinese artists, foster the discovery of a canceled exhibition and call attention to the implications of such cancellations.
