Akhnaten opera events

The Oriental Institute and the Graham School of General Studies will present three events associated with the Midwest premiere of Akhnaten, a new opera by American composer Philip Glass.
The Oriental Institute will present a seminar titled Akhnaten: the Music of the Opera, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Saturday, July 22. Led by Paul Frandsen, a leading expert on Glass opera, the seminar will explore the composers elaborate piece, which applies ancient Egyptian themes from the age of Amarna,the era of Akhnaten, his queen Nefertiti and the boy king, Tutankhamun, to modern melodies.
