Facilities Services makes more parking available

As the first walls of the new 1,068-space parking structure emerge, Facilities Services has completed a free community parking lot across the street at the southwest corner of Ellis Avenue and 55th Street. Drivers may access the 24-space lot from Ellis Avenue.

Meredith Mack, Director of Facilities, said the temporary lot is a short-term response to mitigate the effect of construction on street parking in that area. A temporary lot at the 5600 block of Maryland Avenue serves the same purpose.

When the parking structure opens next winter, the area will have a net gain of 565 spaces. Eventually, the temporary lot and adjoining Stagg lot will be replaced by the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center for which construction is scheduled to begin next year.
